I am going to skip the usual mongering/adventure travel shit this time. One of things that always bothers me when I come back from a trip is that while I engage in real photographer I still take less than savory images at time. So with that in mind I always have my eye on new services that help bring images in without the worry of getting rectal probed by Customs. So when Mega announced their new Mega File Storage with 2048 bit encryption with 50gb free it got my attention.
There are a couple of things you need to be aware of. To protect the owner that had been raided by the FBI before, the site is registered to New Zealand with server infrastructure hosted all over the place. To avoid the issue of knowing what is on the server, the files are encrypted and therefore they will have no idea what is stored there as only you have the encryption key. This means if you lose your password (the encryption key) you are fucked and there is no recovery so don’t fuck it up and lose it or you lose your data.
So take a look at Mega and sign up. I did and don’t regret it. You can do an upgrade as well and pay for more storage but with 50gb that should be enough to haul most images back. The server is a bit overloaded now so give a reload every once in the while if it hangs up. Hope this helps you secure your files and bring them in safely.
